to trudge

they say life's a journey
(who's they?)
appreciate it along the way
through the twists
and the turns
don't focus on the steps you're taking
just focus on where the steps take you
if you look down at your feet, you miss it
(miss what? they never say)
but what happens when the traveling turns to trudging?
limping? crawling?
"to trudge: to walk in a laborious, heavy-footed way"
the world narrowing, zooming in
like slipping into tunnel vision as you're about to collapse
your feet, the shoes wearing down
the dust
your legs and the road
maybe if you do fall, you'll wind up on your back
forced to look at something new
even if you can't see it
through glazed eyes and wearied mind

but that's what life's become
its too much to look up, hope for what i cant even remember
i wanted.
life, right now, is not a journey.
its really just an
ache.
